How did they get to HK island? Were they escaped from a zoo perhaps?

I don't know what the locals call 'em but the genus/species is Expatus Inebriatus. I see 'em in Wan Chai all the time.

I would've "liked" that Huja if you hadn't helpfully supplied the photo!

Pangolins are around in the NT. Rare and very strange looking.

Boars are all over the place. Has anyone mentioned the many varieties of snakes? HK also has the biggest Norway rats I've ever seen, but not sure if those qualify as wildlife.

Thanks everybody, keep it going! I am trying to find a photo taken around 1940-41 of a dugong(marine animal like a manatee)killed near Hong Kong harbour,so far without success.

I don't know if wild boars, barking deers and macques qualify as "strange animals" though. They are either part of the natural ecosystem or been introduced to HK for many years.

Maybe the critically-endangered "yellow-crested cockatoo" might qualify. Normally inhabiting tropical regions such as Indonesia, they have been introduced shortly before the Japanese invasion of HK in 1941 by the then HK governor, Sir Mark Young. Now they are a relatively common sight around HK island.

Tigers were native to HK until they were exterminated. Very sad.
