I’m one of the rare white skinned ones. I don’t have any Chinese ancestry, and my Chinese language skills are still terrible. My naturalisation was approved due to my ties to Hong Kong (I’m married to a local, I’ve got kids going to school here, I work here and I own my home).

So it is most definitely possible to naturalise without having a parent who is Chinese. I imagine it helps but I wouldn’t say it was the most important criteria.

shri, Beanieskis and Morrison like this.

I know plenty of completely non chinese background people who got it.

Seems like a lot more people I know who previously had weaker passports made the decision compared to stronger passport holders. Think that is just because the pros and cons are different though.

Mrs Lam applied in May 2022 and acquired Chinese nationality in late November 2023 (after some requests for updated information earlier that month). So basically 18 months.

Mrs Lam never enquired. She did however submit updated information (in her case a change of contact address) at some point which might have brought her file to the top of the pile.

Perhaps wrongly, I perceive that if you write to ImmD (or any government department) it is much more effective if you write in slightly formal, correct English (or Chinese). If this is hard for you perhaps getting a native speaker to help would be beneficial.

I was rejected twice before! - because both times I couldn't prove one of my parents were not British yet when I was born in UK. I am married to a HK local now and been here working nearly 5 years... maybe I can go that route. But not if I have to give up my uk passport.

Well then you can't, because you may only naturalise as a Chinese Citizen after giving up all your other nationalities.
