I am a local Hongkonger and I see racism on a daily basis and believe me it does exist out of pure ignorance and prejudices.... and encouraged by the general media. The Government does little to enforce anti racism laws and education and no political party will take this up as it is not a popular vote grabber.
I cringe in the media portrayal of browns and their stereotyping.
Just look at the stupid advert for maids or the blackening/browning of faces in entertainment programs just to get cheap laughs.
In drama series, they are usually portrayed as terrorists or some poor smuck following a dai lo.
Education is the key to reducing prejudices and the Government should have more minorities in senior positions.
How many minorities do we see in any of the political parties?
The aboriginal in Canada was in a similar, but different position. The compensation from the Canadian government was to pay them each $800/month to live off and were sent into suburbs. They weren't allowed to trespass into the City. My Mother used to do business in a Canadian suburb and see these very obese aboriginal killing themselves with alcohols using their free money. They later compensated the aboriginals - still - the damage has been done - and that's probably the reason why the Gov voted Gaza out more so than US pressure since their hands were as dirty as the Israelis.Original Post Deleted
In the US, the whole Chinese thing didn't start until around 2005ish. The main issue at first was an economic threat - so they have these media doing some serious brainwashing. The people don't actually have much opinion about Chinese and groups were always separate, but when even the media says it like it's like the most normal thing to say, it gets instilled. And unlike Australia, the young is as bad as the old.
FYI, DG is a Canadian. Hippie/'redneck' whites are generally more racist.

How does that sound when someone says something like: "You all know how locals look at brown and black people here"
Mirror, mirror who is the fairest of them all
Even if a Hongkie did answer "no" to this question I don't think they are likely to turn into some kind of neighbour from hell should some foreigner move in next door.
In what serious ways does this purported widespread racism manifest itself?
