However, that wasn't my point, I said I didn't like bad weather landings, not that I am gripping the armrest in sheer terror that the plane is about to fall from the sky. I dislike turbulence and bumpy landings, mainly because I have a 9 year old for whom I am expected to hold the sick bag. Last rough landing we discovered there were no sick bags in our row, it wasn't pretty.
Well in that case carry extra sick bags or better yet, give your kid some air sickness pills. Check with your local pharmacy to see if any is available (or if it requires prescription).

Yes, Utor being such a strong storm is unsurprising. The Western Pacific basin do produce the strongest tropical cyclones on record, as well as being the most active (although this year has been rather quiet in terms of typhoon frequencies...so far).

I have learnt over the years to check for airsick bags early in the flight and to tear off the top tab so it is ready if required.
Most stupid thing I know - airsick bag that is sealed and you have to think ahead to tear at the perforations!!!

    Message on HKO site:

In response to messages circulating on the Internet today (12 August) speculating the time of issuance of various tropical cyclone warning signals concerning tropical cyclone Utor, the Hong Kong Observatory clarifies that it has not issued such messages. Members of the public are advised to pay attention to the official announcements issued by the Observatory on Utor through radio, TV, the Observatory`s website and mobile apps (MyObservatory).

They surely become a trash bag without those little perforations...
