Help Needed- Direct Hire A Helper from the Philippines

My husband and I are expecting a baby in March 2014 and we have decided to hire a domestic helper. I posted an ad and received quite a number of inquiries coming from individuals in the Philippines. I thought we can only direct hire someone who is already in HK. And with the overseas ones, we need to go through an agency. Does anyone know if we can directly hire someone from the Philippines and how the process works?

    Thanks a lot!

Why would you hire someone that you havent meet personally or interviewed and seen her in action at your place.

sorry dont know if you can hire directly or not without using agency, i do know is that the forms to be filled in need your signature and the helpers signatures, then the forms need to be taken to Philippines consulate to be signed and chopped and then you can send it to the immigration for processing. bit of a pain in the arse to be mailing document back and forth IMHO.

Try to contact this place and ask for quotation for doing the paper work only.

You do need to use an agency for a direct hire. It will be expensive with all the new trainings n insurance required by the Philippine govt for First time hires. $6-7K. I have done it twice. First helper was with us for 5 years. Lovely person but took me a while to find her. Second time was a bit desperate as helper was leaving to get married n rushed n hired a relative. She was only with us 10 mths.
    Good luck!

Thank you Rani, for the info. I was wondering if you have any agency that you recommend?

Helper in recommended above is pretty good. Also if you've found a candidate that you like in the Philippines and she's free why not bring her to HK for an interview. Airfares on Cebu Pacific are fairly reasonable.
