I don't think that either "feel China was right to act as it did", more that they feel it is right to defend China regardless of what it did. Both for different reasons I suspect.

You might as well ask the fox why he ate the gingerbread man.

    Bingo...spot on.

    No, that's the point.

Everyone's speculation is just speculation. It's a firm stance of not concluding especially when opinion doesn't realistically matter to what actually happens.

It either is or it's BS. Unless we have internal knowledge of what contributes to the decision making, everyone is just BSing.

It amazes me how China seems to go out of its way not to show any compassion, humanity, generosity or commonsense, let alone empathy, as soon as foreign relations enter the equation. They had the perfect opportunity to "be the bigger man" and step up to offer some meaningful help to a country that is in desperate need of such help but once again they go the other way and only managed to "match" the donation from another Asian powerhouse in Vietnam. Sorry, that is a lie... Although both countries are donating $100,000, China is also throwing over some blankets and tents... Embarrassing and anyone defending this on the back of "we don't know the reasons" or "just giving anything is enough" is quite sad.

Last I checked, your opinion or INXS one or mine NEVER realistically matter....

By your logic, we NEVER really know, so we never really have an opinion.

Alright in that case, there is no real need to discuss any subject I suppose, unless we know ALL the facts, which we very rarely do.

In this case though some facts were provided:
    Donation Amount
    China reserves
    Other countries donation
    Past donation from China
    etc etc
All this are fact that we all know and that are easily accessible.

Now we can based on THESE FACTS, say that the Chinese donation is no where near where it should be as a major global player.

IF NEW FACTS, are revealed later (ie China actually donated more in another way etc etc), then MY opinion (and the opinion of many other on this board I am sure) will/may change.

But based on the CURRENT FACTS THAT ARE KNOWN BY ALL OF US (which is the basis for our discussion, else there is no dicussion), CHINA donation appear to me very very low.

Sure, you can say it's relatively small donation.

So now you have to think about why that is the case. What did the Chinese Gov take into account before deciding to shell out a small amount?

Perhaps we wouldn't know immediate answers, but we have many years to look at its actions. Let the decision maker make that quick call. We should focus on ourselves.

lol, some of you need to take it easy on INXS and HKIT. just because people have different opinion from you doesn't mean they are wrong. everything is relative. last time i checked, this is a NATURAL disaster. people who are throwing a fit, ask yourself this, did you donate money to every natural disaster? how much did you donate? why didn't you donate as much as the other guy? if not, does that you mean are a bad person? just go smoke a joint and take it easy man...

Most of you are responding by emotion like angry radical feminists. You don't have all the facts but you have already made up your mind. I bet INXS and HKIT also feels that $100,000 is very low, but they are not quick to point fingers or jump to conclusions. Yet you all think they should.

    Rant and un-PC warning on:

I think Chinese people are generally racist against anyone who isn't Chinese.

Time to put hazmat suit on now to deal with the fallout.
