A bit like closing the stable door long after the horse has bolted.

" Dear Lord, please look after the country that you have just shat on from a great height, killing many thousands of your loyal subjects and destroying the homes and livelihoods of millions of others?

Wouldn't " Dear Lord, don't create a fugging great typhoon in the first place" be a bit more appropriate?

Unless of course it makes the person doing the praying feel better about themselves, cause it sure isn't much use to the victims.

Let's hear it for "He works in mysterious way" If there was a God, you'd really have to wonder what kind of petty entity would allow killing, rape, torture, disasters, wars, disease etc... and then when it feels like it answer prayers

    Just for reference:
The 2008 Sichuan earthquake, killed 69,195 people, with 18,392 missing.
Foreign government aid for 2008 earthquake in China: (including countries friendly or unfriendly, aid from private parties not included.)
    Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: $50, 000, 000
    Japan: ~$5, 000, 000
    India: $5, 000, 000
    Russia:$4, 000, 000
    United States: $ 500, 000

    $500,000????
Is that disgraceful and shameful or does that word only apply when talking about China?

Why would I criticize them or the US for this? I don't think either were wrong. They can choose who to donate to and how much to donate!

Look, it's really simple - China doesn't owe the Philippines anything. Besides, they're sitting on Chinese territory practically rent-free! Ridiculous! Perhaps if the Philippines gummint had thought things through from the start, the situation would look a little different and they might just have received a more handsome payout. But if you are going to try and steal land from the head of the family, you had best believe that you will pay a heavy price, one way or another.

One would hope that the Philippine gummint will consider reviewing their reckless approach to neighbourly relations, and come to appreciate the virtues and benefits of being in the good books of the region's sole superpower.

Until then, as a noble lady once said, "Let them eat siu long bao!"

Bit of historical context needed for that one. firstly the major aid giving organisations countries were dealing with the Burma Typhoon Nargis, which happened 10 days before the China earthquake.

Burma was not able to cope with the scale of the disaster, and requested help. America offered 3 million in aid and physical help, along with many other countries.

When the Chinese earthquake struck, the central government did not request outside help, and the view at the time was that it was because the country was capable of dealing with the rescue mission on its own. Nor did China reveal the full extent of the disaster for some time. http://www.theguardian.com/world/200...georgebush.usa

    http://www.ifrc.org/en/news-and-medi...s-and-figures/

So plucking figures out of their context does not give the true picture of what happened in 2008.
