    Cinéphiles

    Hi

I am a sucker for european cinema ... and was wondering whether there are any movie clubs in Hong Kong or not? I saw that Alliance Française has a very decent lineup of movies at their disposal, so I realize that one might simply rent the dvds. But is there any regular screening anywhere ... and if so, what is the cost?

The Broadway Cinematheque is the only big cinema in Hong Kong now which specialise in arty movies - they have a fair bit of French and other European stuff. You also need to watch out for things like the annual HK International Film Festival.

wow! @ HKD60, cinema sure doesn't come cheap over there!!! I mean this is relatively expensive if one compares to the other costs like taxis etc. Anyways, I was hoping for a more informal setting ... where a bunch of people get together ...

But in any case, thanks a lot for the suggestion!

Eh? Where do you come from where cinemas cost less than US$8 / Eur 5 / GBP4? Cinemas in London costs twice that, at least.

come to think of it ... i do agree with you. i had remarked about the cost cause for some unknown reason, i always benchmark such prices with the taxi fares, and they seemed to be really cheap in hong kong. But yes, when converted to dollars or euros, they are fine ..., thanks for the links.

Movies in Malaysia cost you only RM 10 equivalent of HKD 24 and Singapore SGD10/HKD 58. All prices for the weekend and latest movies on screen!
