A on a recent trip there was a common denominator that caused unpleasantness on the journey

    1) Delayed take off at Sao Paulo due to an argument in the walkway to the airplane
    2) Child inappropriately using the sink with encouragement from the parent in the Doha airport
    3) Standing up and emptying their luggage racks while stewardesses vigorously tried in vain to stop them as the airplane taxied to the terminal

Yes - All the incidents were mainland tourists. Perhaps the CCP should step up its education programme on how to be a socially responsible

Although many would prefer the US Government to step up the 'how to talk quietly in public' campaign for their citizens. Or the 'How to enjoy just a couple of glasses' from her majesties UK Government or 'how to be a good winner' programme from Canberra etc etc

Try to get onboard a train at Causeway Bay most days and you will wonder where the additional tourists would actually fit!

I did see a Mainlander today executing a bushman's hanky aka a snot shot as I headed for the platform. Always a highlight!

Isn't the purpose of the mass-tourism programme to assimilate Hong Kong into the mainland?

High hotel prices would stop this being so effective.

Yes, we will be culturally assimilated by 2022. Politically assimilated by 2047.

Hong Kong's popularity comes largely thanks to its northern neighbors.

Chinese visitors make up 63.5% of the city's inbound visitors, up 11.1% in 2012 compared with 2011.

Just wondering when it comes to 2047 and borders go, will everyone have to start driving on the right? Would be interesting to see the nightmare of making that work.

The Chinese travel and spend more than anyone else on the planet. They shelled out $102 billion on 83 million trips in 2012, according to the United Nations; and they'll continue to dominate the market.

By 2020, more than 200 million Chinese will go overseas, according to a report from Asia-Pacific brokerage firm CLSA -- double the number that did in 2013. This explosion is due in part to higher wages, more annual leave and easier visas.
By 2020 where ever you go you will run into Mainlanders LOL Your better off accepting the fact and adapting the ways of the CCP, turn yourself into a Mainlander.
