British passport online application ( by a BNO passport holder)

I had been weighing the pro's and cons of retaining my BNO passport ( I am HK permanent resident also). In the end, after much googling and enquiries about its validity in the future, I decided to run for British passport ( although, I can still see flaws with it like I might have to face immigration controls just like any other passports ). I opted for this as my random searches showed that BN(O)p is losing its popularity and validity,

My question after this short precap of my journey is that i'm trying to find an online application form specifically prepared for BN(O) class. I found countless others but couldn't find any mentioning BNOs ( those I found are for renewing/applying for BNOp itself) .Could anyone help pls? Or would it be better to go to the consulate itself?

    Thanks in advance.

I believe you first have to apply for British citizenship.

Claire ex-ax , BNO passport is an exception ( as seen in the eligibility criteria)

If you are a BN(O) who has, and has never had, any other citizenship and who is not ethnic Chinese then you may qualify to Register as a British Citizen.

If you're already a British citizen (i.e. have right of abode) then why can't you just fill in the usual Full Passport form?

If not, you need to register at a British citizen first. I do not believe it is automatic.

Where are you actually from??? HK permanent residency has nothing to do with British Passport application, you can still keep it and nothing will change.

    from Singapore.

It was mentioned in the British Consulate's website that BNOs can apply for British Passport ( without mentioning the necessity to apply for citizenship first ). Do I really have to apply for citizenship first? I'm actually in need of a passport only that will allow me an easy access/entry into the UK for short visits ( I've heard that BNOs are subject to immigration controls)

Well, they haven't mentioned anything about having to register first as a British citizen. All I saw was that BNOs are eligible to apply for British passport .........

if you want to apply for British Citizenship then it takes a few months and costs close to $10K, once the govt has approved you get a certificate of citizenship after you have been to the swearing cermony at the consulate, then you need to fill in the passport application form and pay more money and wait another month.

if you already have a BNO then its easy to renew, you cannot apply for a BNO if you have never had one before.

you just follow this link, fill in the details, print it out and mail it to the UK, takes around a month.
