Noticed guns chipped in: me and guns live probably 10 miles away from each other - cwb is a big place - so there's a lot of geography involved when looking at cwb. His closest MTR I guess is Choi Hung (on the green line) and mine is Hang Hau (on the purple line). Hang Hau to Wanchai is about 30 minutes commute.

From Mang Kung Uk down to where we live, there's nothing - purely residential - and even with the weekend country park and beach dwellers, it is very serene and quiet. I don't know if you have kids, but it's very expatty and there are lots of western families with kids around, so it's quite sociable too.

Commuting is easy but if you live deep in the villages, you'll need a car. There's never any traffic - even at Silverstrand, at rush hour, you're never waiting more than 30 seconds tops.

If you fancy a look out around this area, I can recommend some good property agents, and could probably show you around a few places myself.
Ive just been on the phone to my hubby, and told him about Clearwater Bay. He's going to have a look tonight on Google Earth . I think we will probably take a trip there to have a look, so yes, I would appreciate some recommendations. It is really down to James, because he's the one doing the travelling, and he's not one for getting up on a morning a minute before he has to LOL (He's from Darlington by the way).

My son is back in the UK. He's 25 this year, (I'm an old gal ) but I do miss the Western side of socialising. We do have Western friends here in Tai Wai, but only see them when we go to the Dai pai dongs. Most of the time I talk to my dog for company LOL I keep saying I will learn Cantonese, but shamefully, I've only learned the bare minimum (How to direct the Taxi home lol)

Darlo! So close to home. Let me know what your husband says anyway.

Try Tai Po, either out towards tai Mei tuk or nearer to the centre.

Why don't you both make a day trip this weekend to cwb area, see some flats, and then go to sai Kung town(which is just 10 mins drive from my place anyway) and have a beer at steamers.

Oh forgot to mention, don't go to sai kung town on sunday, you'll be stuck in the traffic for many minutes between 5-7 if you are planning to leave... if you are going in to the town then you are fine... Which I guess you will be if you follow my advice and do the flat hunting during the day and get drunk at steamers in the evening...

... But why they ( some locals ) leaving their main door open. That what always puzzled me. Definitely not for catching fresh air ;-)

Definitely not fresh air, but to try and get a draught through the flat to keep AC costs down.?

Old habit. Going back 30-40 years it was a community thing. Everyone had big families (maybe extended staying with them) and small flats, everyone just went on and out of each other place. Neighbourhoods really bonded.
