    Electricity bill has tripled

I know the subsidy has stopped but according to the bill our electricity usage has gone from 13 units (april-june) to 24 units (june-july). I doubt we've been using the AC *that* much more.

Could it be a mistake or is the billing all done automatically? (The meter isn't in the flat so I can't check it).

Some bills can be estimated. You should be able to find the meter yourself and check the reading. Building management should be able to show you where it is.

That sounds normal for the summer in HK. 13 units to 24 is not tripling.

We go from a low of 19 in December / January to a peak of 46 in Summer, so sounds about right for you to go from 13 to 24.

No, but the bill went from $500 to $1700.

Thanks all, I'll try to find the meter and double check the number. I know it should go up in the summer, but it has never been this high - even this time last year.

What 'units' are you guys talking about?
My HK Electric bill for June says '700 units' ($600.)

I guess because not all units are equal in value. The more you use, the higher the cost of each unit. I am with CLP and the cheapest unit is 81cents, rising to $1.61.

Same here, my last bill tripled to $12xx (from around $400) Wasn't happy at first, but when I checked my last years bills, I saw a similar increase.

CLP has a little graph at the bottom that shows you average daily units consumed over each 2 month billing period. I assume Username is talking about that daily unit measure.
