what you need for a number eight
Forecast wind condition over Hong Kong is the basis to determine the tropical cyclone signal to be hoisted. The Signal Number 8 will be hoisted when gale or storm force wind is expected or blowing in the Victoria Harbour, with a sustained wind speed of 63-117 kilometres per hour.
Cheers for the info Kombuchakid, looks like it could be fairly close.

It's fast moving and the Observatory has stated it might issue the No. 1 signal this evening. From its track it looks like we're in for a lot of rain, that's all though.
looks like a miss to me, from the HKO site, ofcourse....
just a wild guess!!!

If it's anything like the last T9 we had a few weeks ago, the track varied wildly for days beforehand - for a while it looked like it wouldn't come within 1000km of us and ended up being a direct hit! I'd wait and see. We are watching this one just in case - they tend to be stronger if they don't actually hit the Philippines first.....
i heard that its supposed to hit us Wednesday morning ... T8 that is...
let´s cross the fingers!
