Question Travel time for Clear Water Bay

    Hi everyone,

We are considering a move to Clear Water Bay (probably around Siu Hang Hau or Mau Po) and our only concern is the travelling.

My husband will be driving to work at IFC. Does anyone know how long it might take him if he wants to arrive about 9.00 or 9.30 am? Western Tunnel is ok if that's faster.

Also, he'll be leaving at night around 7pm. Would it be quicker on the way back?

Thanks so much for your help!

I could speculate and I'm sure others will, but the only way to answer this question is to do the drive a few times or find someone who does the drive. Hopefully someone that does the drive everyday will be able to help you, otherwise expect the usual guesses that usually underestimate the time. Door to door, Hong Kong commutes are typically much longer than people expect or what is given online.

if he were to drive to IFC he best and so called fastest route will be Clear Water Bay through Tseung Kwan O Tunnel then through Eastern Cross Harbour Tunnel, Eastern island corridor to Central, should take aprox 1 hour as 7.30am on wards its peak time and TKO tunnel starts backing up.

Dont bother with Western Tunnel as to get there he will have to go past hung hom and traffic is very very bad there.

Expect traffic after Eastern Corridor. Connaught road in the morning is normally congested.

Alternative: Drive to Olympic Station and use the ParknRide from there, just 2 MTR stops.

There is also ParknRide from Hang Hau and Choi Hung MTR, but from either station is quite a long way in a very packed MTR.

east tunnels is not too bad, been there a few times, average tunnel queue is only 10 minutes, not bad at all especially driving in rush hour in hk is not nice at all

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your thoughtful responses! I have a much better idea now. It's certainly quite a long way to travel, but I think the benefits of 'country' living might be worth it!

Or do what some couples do and that is the Mrs drives the husband to Hang hau MTR and drives back, Husband can get to Central in just over 30 mins, saves a lot of hassle and head ache with the traffic jams
