Oil filled ones are quieter, if that is an issue for people who like them on when sleeping.
They sound the same as an air-conditioner. So if you like that white noise (as my husband does) they are great. Personally I do prefer it quiet, I agree!Original Post Deleted
The winters have been pretty mild here since 2008 and I've rarely been that uncomfortable. I still remember the 2008 winter, must have been a great winter for space heater sales.
Oil heater much better for big rooms and for sleeping with the heat on and saving power, just take a while to heat up. Ceramic is better to quickly heat up a small space or dry up a room while heating it up.
Does anyone have any strong views on the Imarflex oil heaters?

A colleague has an Imarflex fan on her desk. Works fine.
But for a heater? Having had a famous brand 'burn' the socket, I would not go cheap on a heater.
I would definitely stay away from space heaters - these are cheap, but often (1) smell (2) make a noise like a hairdryer (3) dry out the room and (4) often the source of house fires
