I aim the vents at the ceiling fan and the room warms up very quickly.

Oil filled ones are quieter, if that is an issue for people who like them on when sleeping.

They sound the same as an air-conditioner. So if you like that white noise (as my husband does) they are great. Personally I do prefer it quiet, I agree!

The winters have been pretty mild here since 2008 and I've rarely been that uncomfortable. I still remember the 2008 winter, must have been a great winter for space heater sales.

Oil heater much better for big rooms and for sleeping with the heat on and saving power, just take a while to heat up. Ceramic is better to quickly heat up a small space or dry up a room while heating it up.

A colleague has an Imarflex fan on her desk. Works fine.

But for a heater? Having had a famous brand 'burn' the socket, I would not go cheap on a heater.

I would definitely stay away from space heaters - these are cheap, but often (1) smell (2) make a noise like a hairdryer (3) dry out the room and (4) often the source of house fires
