Today I found 3 shops on Li Yuen Street West in Central. I went to stall 56 & 57. I don't know the business or owner's name but he was efficient, took proper care when handling my watches, knew what he was doing, and was affordable (batteries for my watches cost just $20HK each). The shop is closest to Queen's Road. The other two are were further down, closest to Des Voeux Rd.
I did not say "in AN alley" but "in one of THE alleys". That is how those two streets are often referred to. If I could have remembered their real names I would have given them and if he (or you) had wanted more directions I would also have given them. Welcome to geoexpat by the way.

Another place is the building behind Golden Arcade in SSP. This is the one with the escalators and there are loads of shops selling PC's and Hardware. There is a watch store on the ground floor thats cheap and good.

If you are in Mongkok you can stop by Sino Center on Nathan and there are a couple of watch stores on the ground floor.

I know these are not in K Tong or Central but it might help if you are having no luck elsewhere.

I like the ones in the ally's. I mean the dodgy ally's.. the ones with rats and smells, oh, and watch repairmen.

I've always heard them referred to, and refer to them, as "the Lanes".

I have heard both, probably depends on the nationality of the speaker.

Interesting. To native English speakers it sounds like Filipinos
refer to these two streets as 'alley alley'. However, the correct term in Tagalog is in fact 'ale ale' (pronounced very similar to 'Alley Alley' in English). It is a polite way of referring in Tagalog to a female unknown to the speaker (Miss or Madam etc).
