Living on a yacht in HK

Hi everyone, I'm a Hk PR and I've taken this year off work to pursue sailing and travels. I'm considering buying my own yacht and changing my lifestyle...returning with it to Hk then hopefully living on it while working and saving for 6-8 months then going cruising for the other 4ish months of the year.

Seems like the best option money and location wise is Aberdeen Boat Club and a mooring in the Typhoon Shelter there but I'm confused with the different types of memberships for the boat club- have no experience in that area. What would be the best for me?

Is it still allowed to stay on board /liveaboard in the Typhoon Shelter? My yacht would be around 36ft.

    Thabks for any advice.

Shouldn't this be in the First World Problems thread?

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously, sounds like a great idea! I'll be interested to follow this thread and see what advice you can garner from people who actually have a clue about the topic (unlike me).

You don't need to be a member of ABC to rent a mooring in the Typhoon Shelter. However, the club may be a good place to find a mooring for rent. You can also look online

But is this actually a "problem" or just a question on lifestyle choice?

No worries. I don't sail ,but have friends who do. Your best bet is to contact the Hong Kong Yacht Club and talk to members - join yourself first, and ask questions, network, learn the ropes. From my friends' sailing schedule, they meet regularly depending upon sailing comditions.

Have you actually bought a yacht? Or just speculating?
