I personally know few people who have Hong Kong on top of their list. Especially those with children want to leave as soon as possible, although this applies to the locals too!

Work brought us here, we have to be in Asia. Even with low taxes we could save much more in Europe because the cost of living there is much lower and of much better quality too.

Agree with you TO, there are so many much better places to live than Hong Kong. Lack of variety and affordable good food, shopping, schools, housing is enough to drive most people away long-term. Not to mention the pollution, and imho (autistic) crowds and
money-obsesed, shallow and spoilt people in certain circles.

The choice is yours. Live in a bigger flat and pay more indirect taxes. You choose a small flat to avoid paying tax it is that simple.

Hong Kong has a different tax base not a low tax base.

Most expats I know live here because they married an Asian or because they make a lot more money here than they would make at home.

its not because of the crowds, rude people, cheap housing, over-priced food or pollution

Singapore would already be so much better. But Amsterdam, Sydney, Vancouver, San Francisco would be awesome.

So is anyone scared about 2047? About China slowly taking over Hong Kong?

Does that impact anyone's decision of still staying here long term?

    Nope not scared.

It's all relative, but if you're rich enough Hong Kong is an awesome place to live.
