"It's never dull in Hull" (official slogan). And we all know how accurate official slogans are such as "Asia' s world city".

Well, the question made the assumption that one of the places must be dull and I merely stated otherwise.

Lucky for Keith, had he been stuck in Gore, he would have definitely killed himself.

For boring, same grey/ grotty suburbs, Taipei and Taichung are hard to beat. You really need to search out "interesting" actively! The same in larger mainland cities. At least in smaller places like Xining or the backstreets of Lanzhou the boring architecture and shops are frequently livened up by outbreaks of ethnic dancing, flocks of goats being driven down the road, and donkeys pulling coal or nightsoil carts who suddenly decide to pick fights with another of their kind, or just stop still in the path of turning traffic.

@Skyhook our old next door neighbour in Wellington was from Gore, he described Invercargill as the Earth's sphincter and Gore as a haemorrhoid.

Good stories about the blue children he went to school with though.

Gold Coast is a veritable hotbed of interest, maybe a month just wasn't long enough?

I meant if you don't go to the festival to enjoy it, you have traffic jams along all the roads to contend with.
