Bit of a cheeky jog to the west in the last hour guys...actually...#HAIMA travelled more or less due west since 8 o'clock...more of that please!

Haima is rather intact and is moving closer to Hong Kong steadily, posing substantial threat to the territory. According the present forecast track, the Observatory will consider issuing No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal in the morning on Friday.
At present, local winds are mainly from the north. Owing to terrain effect, winds have not been strengthened significantly. However, winds are expected to strengthen rapidly with frequent squalls and heavy rain in the small hours
"Substantial threat" - did HKO just climb down off the fence?

My estimate is that it will be T8 around 5am.

Weirdly...they climbed down off the fence and simultaneously downgraded the wind warning from Force 6-7 to Force 5-6 for tomorrow...

***edit*** They just rejigged it to Force 8...

I guess there's some *ahem* discussion going on down there!

They're talking about T8 now...in the morning, which is great...they kind of had a get out clause as there is some historical precedent regarding not hoisting T8 until at least four anemometers have recorded gales. This assumes we accept that HKO doesn't want to issue T8s right? I'm guessing that with the westward jog and the fact that she's remained so well organised, they've had to accept that we might have gales very soon....woohoo!

The Hong Kong Observatory announces that the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 8 is expected to be issued at or before 6:30 a.m. today (21 Oct 2016). Winds locally will strengthen further.
Announcement by the Education Bureau (EDB):
The EDB announces that classes of all day schools are suspended today. If classes of evening schools are required to be suspended, the bureau will make the announcement in due course.

Couldn't sleep as I kept checking if it was hoisted yet. It's like winter in the UK when you pull back the curtain to see if it's a snow day Enjoy guys
