Back in the 90's customs seized another armoured car. It was on the manifest but they did not have a transit licence to bring it through HK. It sat in Queens Hill Camp for a long time.
This is going from Taiwan to Singapore.
Can you imagine if it was going the other way around, would have been fun reading the likes of the global times. The SCMP's story mentions a MIG fighter jet that was stopped on its way to the USA in 2006!!!
Seems this might turn into a major diplomatic incident.
Hong Kong caught in tug of war as customs seize shipment military vehicles from Taiwan | South China Morning Post
But were the vehicle subject to "import, export, re-export or transshipment "?
Can't find in any news if they were in hk for transshipment, or if they've been take off the ship just because customs noticed something suspicious..
I bet they have been taken off the ship just so the PLA can crawl all over them
@alexdown - appears that even their presence, not matter what mode of shipment they were in, is a technical offence.
Would love to see how you can imprison the entire Singaporean Army - would need for considerable reclamation in and around Stanley. Nice project for the govt to undertake and complete by 2020.Under the city’s Import and Export Ordinance, a licence is required for the import, export, re-export or transshipment of strategic commodities. The maximum penalty for failing to obtain a licence is an unlimited fine and seven years’ imprisonment.
The plot thickens: https://www.hongkongfp.com/2016/11/2...-kong-customs/
And China flexes its muscles a little bit ..
Quite unprecedented, given that this has been going for decades (shipments for exercises). Would be interesting to see how Singapore handles this - calmly (keep the vehicles, we can afford to replace them) or starts looking at shipments bound to/from China just a little bit more closely, which will be very very tricky.
