Lockhart Road around the Novotel. That whole stretch and the neighbouring streets.

Exactly this area in Wan Chai has lots of shops. The shops may not have actual fans on display, but all the hardware shops have a SCM fan catalog. It's a Hong Kong fan company that seems to have a monopoly over the Hong Kong fan industry. You'll have to order and wait a few days:
SMC Fans – Ceiling Fans, Wall Fans, Oscillating Fans

Also, look at the classified advertisements on this site, Facebook, and the other expat website. There are usually options and that's how I got my two great ones for only $600/each.

Morrison Hill Road. Near where the Aberdeen Tunnel comes into CWB. There's a crapload of lighting stores, that's where the fans are.

Be aware though that most lights in ceiling fans are pretty piss-weak and not a replacement for decent room lighting.

I'd have to disagree with the Lockhart Rd recommendation, there's perhaps only one store with a semi-decent selection of ceiling fans. They have the SMC catalogue, but those are some pretty fugly fans.

Be aware of Hunter Pacific remote control ceiling fans.
They will not maintain high speed setting after a period of use and the Hunter Pacific agent will not be reasoned with when the problem reoccurs immediately after warranty expiry

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. And sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread. I was with the wife and she has little patience for shopping around when she's not totally onside about putting one of these in our dining room.

We will definitely get them for the three bedrooms though and the living room has a SMC branded one already. We haven't moved into our new home on Discovery Bay yet but the ceilings are pretty high.

So now I have more time to shop for the right ones. Would have been nice to do them before we move in but it might be too much of a rush. We will be moving in on July 20th.

    Thanks

Thanks jgl, that is the area that we ventured into. We were aware of that area because we purchased all our lighting for our current home from a shop there. There were quite a few stores that sold ceiling fans and some with lights there.

I didn't want to go to Lockhart because that would have involved more walking with there being so many different types of home hardware/equipment shops there and I didn't recall seeing too many clusters of lighting stores whenever I walked by there in the past.

As mentioned, we have a SMC fan in the living room of the new home. We haven't really tried it yet because we haven't moved in yet. I'm not sure what styles we are interested in yet but mainly that they are effective at keeping us cool.

It'd be worth looking into DC brushless fans, they are much lower power than older style AC fans- something in the vicinity of <20W vs around 80W at max speeds. I've also found that there's a signfificant noise difference between well designed, and traditional/rectangular blades.

I spent months looking at fans and recall having real problems finding something with a decently bright light option (that wasn't absolutely tacky at the same time). In the end I binned the idea of a light.
