How to unsubscribe from mailing lists

Most international firms have an "unsubscribe" button on their marketing emails and it (usually) works. HK firms appear not to and it seems to be impossible to stop them sending you crap. I find the real estate agents the worst (so I rang up and yelled at them) and that seemed to work eventually. But shops too - and it's really irritating.

Anyone else got any good ideas for how to get off these mailing lists? (Pricerite was the one that prompted this post, for example.)

Filter those addresses or mark them as spam

HK and their marketing mindset. Just bombard with shit and eventually they will buy!, We're genius!

I just mark them as spam on gmail. A lot of companies that have unsubscribe just use it so they know your email is legit, they will just sell it to someone else.

I usually just use a fake email whenever i fill in forms unless it's important

I did that with the marketing spam from real estate agents (mainly because they kept sending me HUGE attachments which are a pain to download when in some slow internet countries. Just having an unsubscribe button would be SO much easier!

I just mark anything crap as spam. These days I very rarely sign up for anything like that though, unless it's offering a freebee.

Well I didn't "sign up" for Pricerite; I purchased something from their online store. (which took 2 weeks to get delivered so I won't make that mistake again!). The spam is a by-product. I buy a lot of stuff online and most of my junk is because of that. I do have one email address I use for "not that important" stuff, but some of the online purchases are important so I do check it!
