    An understatement!

My mother is 90 and is still pretty active. She still drives, have to say as an absolute menace to other road users with her unused third and forth gear, walks the dogs for an hour a day, and enjoys a decent social life.

There are many members of my gym who are well over 60, and work out several times a day.

The Victoria Recreation Club has many mature swimmers, one of 88 who used to be a boxer and swims every day of the year regardless, and many 60+ members who enjoy paddling in kayaks including a 70+ who goes out in a surfski.

Meetup groups have already been suggested, and there are loads of them to cater for every taste, and i am sure members here can suggest mid week hiking.

There is no reason for your mum to be lonely or bored. Staying alone in the flat for the next decade or so is simply not an option.

(She could also sign up here and spend hours a day arguing the toss about the various merits of chocolate teapots, kettles and frozen chapatis.)

AH, sorry, my mother's job was in the US. But preschools, etc. always want English speakers to be interacting with the children and do like a range of ages so I think she would do well even against younger applicants. Typically the jobs don't pay all that well so not that easy to attract younger English-speakers.

When my mother found her job there were not that many listings on the Internet so we just drove around to various schools in our district and dropped off her resume (which, by the way, had no childcare experience outside raising her children). She had volunteered as a playground monitor and cafeteria monitor at her granddaughter's elementary school and maybe one of those positions was actually paid. Teachers don't want to have to supervise recess and the lunchroom if the school will pay money to hire someone else to do it...Teachers need lunch time too!

The American Women's Assn organise lots of activities during the day. On Thursdays they do a coffee morning, and non-members are welcome.

There's also the Ladies Circle. https://geoexpat.com/directory/chari...l-groups/18848

AWA and its ladies are brilliant - they do a lot of active and passive things. Everything from hiking to shopping to knitting and much more....

This is a very good group that I heard about from a friend, who while living in HK joined and she had a blast with these ladies.

Agree that 60 is not old unless you think it is (being in that age bracket myself ).
And will give another plug for Crossroads Foundation - volunteers welcome for any amount of time from a couple of hours a week right through to full-time, for everything from gardening to working as a barista to office jobs to sorting donated toys and clothes ... I think the oldest full-time volunteer just turned 78 ...

Not too sure how active this organization is here in HK, but, it works for many seniors in many cities around the world.
