I noticed an interesting thing when I went backpacking around Asia many years ago... at first, touts of all types would constantly harass me... but after a few months, I got left alone, more or less... and other backpackers I spoke to had similar experiences... probably you start to look and act a bit different...

Agree all overstayers are in big trouble but some can get away with just leaving and some get thrown in jail. Usually aligns with nationality.

Getting caught or not having a viable excuse is probably relevant. I suspect if one of those backpacker cum beggers overstays they would have the book thrown at them.
