Of course in her situation, it's what's deserved and should be honored.

From the employers point of view, though, they may just want to get on with life and have as little hassle as possible. Would it not be possible -- albeit I don't think legal? -- to just say "here's your 2.5 months of pay and xx-amount for medical treatment, please go stay with your sister, bye bye"?

Or would they need to pay the 2.5 months of sick leave PLUS one month's pay for the notice period?
@hullexile I am scratching my head over why a grown woman would go by the name of Baby Jane. Is this common practice in the Philippines?
"Baby" is a reasonably common name for a woman but usually not their given name (the used name is often not their given name). Friends of ours are called "Baby" and "Boy" and they are grandparents.

And apparently helpers are not allowed to have sex and get pregnant either -- that's on their own dollar if so! (If I understand that right?) But pap smears are also not covered by my health insurance here either... whoever is making these decisions is a little behind the medical times...no surprise.

Doctors in public system personally said HK does not lack doctors when asked by tv stations' news reporters, the public system lacks doctors because many doctors are in the private sector. Lack of doctors in public system leads to long waiting time for non emergency patients. More than 24 hours at the A&E and 1 to 11 years before the first time public specialist appointment for new non urgent cases. Surgeries are 1 to 11 years after the first appointment

I wonder why DH don't file more complaints about being abused or mistreated. It's such a fair process that is not biased at all towards employers. Well they're just lucky to be here anyway so what do they have to complain about. HK is doing them a favour, they should just be grateful that they're allowed to be poorly paid slaves in a better place.

Her employer didn’t show up because they said they were ill
WTF Labour dept. denied her legal representation, but the "sick" scumbag employer was allowed two lawyers

Wow! A quick internet search shows this is not unknown in the UK, Canada, the US... other women fired for getting cancer. And In the US they would maybe lose medical insurance. But they are not included? Why?

Why would they be included in an article about a helper in Hong Kong? Can you link to a story about a woman getting fired in the UK for having cancer?
