Looks like there was a surge in registrations.

I'm surprised that in a city that is well aware of its political rights (or lack of) people are still unregistered.

Just don't give them your e-mail address. I made that mistake when I first registered, Near election time I ended up getting 20+ pieces of junk a day from candidates as a result – most didn't have an "unsubscribe" button on their spam and about half the ones who did just kept sending me crap anyway.

In any case, I'm still waiting for a candidate I'd want to vote for.

You can report them for breaking the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Ordinance:

    https://www.ofca.gov.hk/en/consumer_...ort/index.html
    Read about UEMO:
    https://www.ofca.gov.hk/en/consumer_...emo/index.html

I've done it before for some aggressive marketing emails and the OFCA usually respond within a few days with a status update.

I thought about that and the Privacy Commissioner but I'm not sure if it would work since the registration forms explicitly say that your e-mail address will be provided to candidates (or at least they did when I registered). I dealt with the problem by updating my particulars to remove my e-mail address (resisting the temptation to provide the e-mail address of one of my least favourite political hacks).

I have used the Privacy Commissioner for persistent cold callers. That usually stops the calls (if they are coming from Hong Kong) but, unfortunately, I've yet to persuade the PC to prosecute.
