Both detectives I met told me there were no charges pressed. I was even told they destroyed the evidence.
Then how come I did not get a letter informing me the case was closed ? I did receive one to inform me the robbery case was closed.

I doubt your son was "holding" it for your friend. So does 5-0.

Caught jaywalking!!! But that happens all the time!!(with police officers just passing by). I mean I have seen it happen right in front of my eyes (and right under the nose of them blue uniformed chaps). They don't seem to "mind" it all or perhaps they didn't see, or still perhaps, they thought catching a person jaywalking is least adventurous.

I was caught jaywalking a few years back and told I would be summoned. Never came. I think jaywalking is a roll of the dice!

    No charges pressed... so far.

All they were saying is that no one has been charged for anything. It does not mean that once your son returns he won't be arrested and then charged. Basically, if someone was charged that means someone would have in jail waiting their day in court, or would have been posted bail.

You would not be informed if the case is closed as you are not the victim of the crime (possession). The Police are under no obligation to tell you the truth anyway, so they could still be holding evidence after telling you it had been destroyed.

In any case, don't you or your son speak to the Police without a lawyer present. Do not believe anything that they may say to you about this - it is very easy for a wily Police officer to get people to say something that can be easily misconstrued in court. That is why it is imperative to keep your mouth shut. What you and your son must never do is in any way suggest that either of you put the cannabis in the safe. And don't post anything similar on social media and delete any posts with specifics such as on this site. Of course it does not help that some people have already quoted you here.

unfortunately there is false advice shown so far
you cannot apply for and receive yourself a certificate of no criminal conviction - the police certificate is issued to overseas immigration or police/consular authorities and is sent direct to those authorities
I presume you are talking about a burglary and not a robbery that includes violence?
Was the safe a keylock or pushbutton code type and how did they open it?
How long after the burglary did the police locate the safe?
If you received a police letter stating there was insufficient evidence to pursue the crime case that means the file is dead unless someone confesses to the burglary at a later date or a stolen item turns up in a pawn shop etc You are lucky in a way they investigated - in UK they just ask you if you are insured
If the police wanted to pursue the case they would contact immigration for the HKID prints of your son.
Your prints would have been taken for elimination purposes to compare with evidence retrieved at the site
Apocrine, eccrine and sebaceous prints have different lifespans and if the THC has been destroyed as they said it is highly unlikely they would want to pursue the case without offering the accused the opportunity of challenging any fingerprint evidence.

If you haven't done anything and just want to know, you can apply for a Certificate of no criminal conviction. I believe you have to visit HQ in person.

This is only for closed cases. I doubt it would show pending investigations.

Perhaps by "destroyed" they meant "smoked"?

It does sound strange but perhaps it was a small amount and they thought as the son was already a victim of crime...
