    Helper pay rise

See helpers are getting a 2.4% pay rise. Slowly the differential in pay between helper in Hong Kong and working in Philippines is being reduced. It is still a lot higher than the average pay in the Philippines but narrowing. The days of graduates working as helpers may have ended.

The helper pay is now about the same as an entry level state school teacher. Government workers have just been awarded over 5% per year for each of the next three years. (Inflation at 1.7% but forecast to average 2-3%.) The helper salary is typical of a call centre job.

Before our helper finished her contract with us, we used to browse the web for another potential employee for her. The prerequisite and or criteria set by a lot of employers (here on Geo and elsewhere) made me LMAO. And still does. Like c'mon, you expect your DH to be a Harvard Graduate ( pun intended) as well as put them under all the stresses of nappy changing to tutoring ,cleaning, cooking (you name it which and how many types), grocery shopping ("marketing" lol) , dog walking etc??!! And pay them 4K. Those people may be getting nightmares with this news.
