Receiving parcel with groceries from overseas

    Hi all,

I am thinking about getting my folks in Europe to send me a parcel with some groceries. Nothing exotic, no alcohol/tobacco - just some stuff from the supermarket (i.e. soups, candies, etc). Just things I can’t get here. And probably not more than 5-10kg.
I have been wondering if this is generally in compliance with customs or if I would potentially be violating any rule. I have been on the HK Customs homepage and couldn’t find anything. My conclusion is so far is: since I couldn’t find anything, this should be fine. But I'd rather be on the save side.

Do you guys have any more information about this?

This is probably a stupid question and has been discussed here before, but I can’t find a thread clarifying it. If you have link to an existing thread, that would be great.

    Thanks

Should not be a problem. We've often purchased random items like the ones mentioned above from iHerb / Amazon etc.

Also, have received care packages from relatives with packaged food...

Same,.. have had chocolates, candies and biscuits sent over from US, Europe and Dubai on several occasions. No issues.

Not always about what cannot be purchased, sometimes it is about what can be purchased at 1/3rd the cost of HK specialist import store prices.

Random stuff we've received - Jamaican Rum Cake, Baklava, Indian treats from family, McCormick spices, doggy treats etc etc etc ...

Most the chocolates here are from Australia or China... I find the UK variety to be much better... Dairy Milk, Snickers Twirl, Flakes, Kit Kat. From the US it's like Pancake mix, Flaming Hot Funyuns etc. From Dubai it's chilli pickles, zataar and other spices.

Just be aware that there are delays at the moment. I'm waiting on a goodie parcel sent from the UK via Parcelforce. Normally it takes around 8 or 9 days. This parcel has sat for 3 weeks. I called them and it hasn't even passed through customs yet, so that is not the delay. Apparently there is a delay due to the virus.
