Question Notarising a document in Hong Kong

Hi, I am supposed to provide an affidavit. Can anyone recommend a place where I can get the affidavit notarised? I see that most places charge like 1500 HKD per page.

    Thanks!

I'm never sure what they'll notarise exactly and what they won't.

But they seem to do most stuff:

    FREE SERVICE IN HONG KONG.
Just look up Home Affairs and offices are in every district. It took 20 minutes wait for the notary officer and I just put my hand on a bible (or you can swear an oath) and then they stamped my photocopy and a statement for my IDs.

Q: Someone is collecting my passport for me in SA that I applied for a few weeks back when I was there now they are asking for an affidavit from HK now and a proof of address here.

Any info on getting an affidavit here for this? I already gave a letter, SA affadavit and I.D copies and they won't let the person fetch it.

A: You can do in any Home affairs office in HK. Here is template for that. https://www.had.gov.hk/.../public_fo...idavit_eng.pdf

Google any home affairs close to you, call and ask when they do oaths. You just go and oath there in front of a legal person. They put a chop on it and voilà- done

The free service is not a notary service. Depending on what is required in the other end, it might not be sufficient.

And if you need a true Notary, rather than the free govt service, check your local consulate - most will do this for a much lower fee than $1500 (last year I got a doc notaries at US Consulate for US$50 (cost per signature, but I only needed one).

    Notarising

The oath declaration at Home Affairs is not the same as notarizing a document.

Notarization is done by a public notary.

The oath declaration is a statement signed by the Commissioner of Oaths that the document is a true copy.
