    Lipoma Removal/Surgery

Not sure if this is the correct place or not to post this, but I would like to see if anyone can provide some input on places to have a lipoma removed. I understand that the current price in a surgery is about HKD10k which seems very high to me, alternatively if via the public health system the wait time is about 1 year...

If anyone has any experience or recommendations than please respond as I would be very interested in hearing from you. Thanks

I have had lipomas removed in the past (20+), but not recently.

They were all removed by Dr. Percy Lam of the Specialists in Mongkok.

You can talk to their insurance team, to see what could be claimed or not.

Yes, I still get them, but I won't have any more removed for now, all my lipoma in past were benign.

I have way too many scars already.

not used this one but maybe cheaper than going to private hospital, give them a shout and see what the price is.

I have lipoma i think on the left side of my neck, fortunately it is not big or sticking out, i can feel a lump and I usually give it a squeeze now and again, sometimes something comes out a little.

I will wait for the borders to re-open and get it cut out in a cheaper country while on holiday
My mate had a few cut out while he was in holiday in Philippines, hell of a lot cheaper than HK

10k is quite cheap, if the surgeon is a specialist. Make sure they send it away for pathology.

I would think it would depend on where the lump is. If its on your leg then a GP could probably remove it. If it's on your face, then you would want a skin specialist to avoid scaring.

Smile HK is Too Expensive for This Surgery!

10K is far too much for what is a very simple surgery, most of the time. The last one I had removed was in the USA by my doctor in his clinic. It was on my arm. Insurance covered it. It took 10 minutes.

I had a wart removed from my back by a private doctor down in Singapore a couple of years ago because the wait to get it done at the public skin clinic here was more than a year. It cost me SG$70 (about HK$400). This is about what a lipoma would cost too. HK$10K! No way!

As others have recommended, get in done in Thailand or elsewhere where the costs are reasonable. You can have the stitches taken out here when you get back (normally 14 days) if you need to. I've even taken them out myself when they are in a convenient place. Simple to do with the right pair of sterilized scissors. Just cleanse the wound with chlorhexidine (buy at a local pharmacy) for a couple of days following the removal. Spend your savings on a nice holiday!

Only one year wait for a lipoma? It’s a surgery that’s almost always unnecessary I’m surprised it’s not more like 5-10years

I'm guessing warts would be 'zapped' with something like a hyfrecator, which of course would be cheap. Actual 'cut and sew' surgery will be more expensive. Most public hospitals would have a waiting time of at least a year for this sort of stuff. You could go cheap and 'Rambo' it.
