Hong Kong taxi association threatens strike in effort to pressure government to approve fare increase

    https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/...-strike-effort

Really outrageous to ask for +20% and threaten a strike. We all know the money goes to the tycoon license holders, and not the drivers. The government doesn’t need their support in legco anymore so time to quash them and legalise Uber

HK government treat democrats as a national security threat while the taxi cartel is a vested interest the government bend over backwards to placate. Yet its pretty clear the taxi cartel has had a more harmful impact on the average HK citizen than the democrats ever did.

It's 18 months now (well 15 or so years in reality) that Legco has been nullified for these day to day issues as far as any deliberative powers.

Now that millions of HK people have over $1k on their octopus cards, will most taxis finally start accepting payment by octopus?

    Why would they?

    Artificial shortage ensures constant demand
Cash based method ensures drivers get a little more on rounding up
    1.5% fee for octopus transactions

Let them strike, govt has shown that any form of dissent is not tolerated in the city. If they go on strike they will wipe themselves out and China can then introduce Didi to HK will make many a hker, tourist and expat happy

Didi got banned as well (for a while), so get used to taking public transport or walking...

I don't think the yellow leaning folks (that most ride sharing folks seem to be) are going to want a CCP controlled app knowing how much money they make and where they go and who they pick up. Similar to how some folks refuse to wechat, etc.

Let them go strike then offer emergency approval of Uber to cover the needs during the taxi strike.. would be exciting then to see the eventual economics effect
