Where can I get a proper English Xmas dinner?

    Hi Guys,

Ok, I am seriously homesick and seriously craving a proper English Xmas dinner. My kitchen is too friggin small to sort one out, not to mention my portable oven can only fit an emaciated, growth-stunted chicken, no way could a turkey or goose fit there.

So, I am desperate to eat the turkey, the bread sauce, gravy, gorgeous roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, brussel sprouts with the chestnuts, stuffing, cranberry sauce, oh man I am drooling whilst writing this. Of course lets not forget the seriously lush Xmas pudding, drowned in brandy, set on fire, then served with dollops of cream or brandy butter or custard, followed shortly by tea and mince pies and mulled wine.

    Jesus I'm hungry now.

So my question is guys, do you know of anywhere that does a decent English Xmas meal that includes all of the above? I'm at the point of desperation where I dont' care about the price, I just want my frickin meal. Been here a year now and I need my frickin Xmas meal.

I'm predicting somewhere like Jaspas might do it, coz they do pretty decent fry ups.........

I don't know of anywhere, but it is - with a lot of patience and planning - possible to do a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings in the rabbit hut excuses for kitchens we have here and the microwave size 4 bar portable oven...even Turkey! I managed to cook for 6 a couple of years ago...the trick with the Turkey is that you have to cut it up (you'll have to forgo the presentation here!) into portions, legs, wings, breasts...then lay into a foil dish with plenty of wine vegs etc for flavour and to keep it moist...cover it with foil and cook as normal. I cooked half on Christmas eve and the other half on the day itself (but that was only necessary as cooked for 6) and the turkey was actually some of the best we've ever head, it stayed really moist cooked like that.

All the rest of of the trimmings are possible (if you know how, of course!) but you'll need a well thought out plan of action!!

This was our first Christmas in Hong Kong - we've gone back to the UK for the last two...much less hassle with the dinner that way!

Dublin Jacks in LKF looks like they are doing a good xmas dinner.

DanielandHayley- cheers for the advice. I never thought of cutting the stupid thing up, good idea. Not great on presentation, correct, but I dont' care anymore.

As for the trimmings, I know how to do them but not in a kitchen the size of mosquito's weener. I guess I'll have to get pissed beforehand and then the whole preparation work will be fun and far less painful.

    Thanks again!

Oh fantastic, I'll check it out even if I do decide to cook at home, nothing wrong with having 2 Xmas meals. I like Dublin Jack's, they do blindingly good cocktails as well and I always get a seat.

    Cheers again.

Lots and lots of places are doing them. Quarterdeck is one option. All the clubs if you are a member or go with someone who is (FCC etc).

oh my god I just checked out the site. Everything on that menu has made me drool. Everything.

I have got to stop looking at food sites at work. I'm trying to shift the remainder of my baby weight and all I can think about is Xmas food now, not good.

    Anyways thanks for the tip.

Old thread, but same question for this year. Anyone know a good western style Christmas dinner on either the 24th or 25th without breaking the bank? I am looking for around $400 per person, if possible. I know it is getting late so I am desperately looking for ideas. Thanks all

    Some ideas...

Hey Brian - I've been looking for a traditional set menu with a budget of around $3-400, good looking ones include Delaney's, Jaspa's, McSorley's and Phoenix. I found a lot of the less upmarket places don't have info on their websites but if you call/email them they'll email you a menu.

    Happy eating!
