Happy to read posts from people who actually post content, rather than people who just troll or snipe...
Plenty of posts/threads that are of no interest to me and are wholly unrelated to Hong Kong (e.g., nearly any thread about football). But, as my parents taught me, the world is a big place and doesn't revolve around me and my interests. So I just skip over those bits, leaving them to others who do have an interest in those matters. It's called "maturity" which is sorely lacking in some posters.
Hard but not torrential rain. Strong winds that are building all the time but not bad - still have all the windows open. There are 4 hours to the eye so will no doubt get worse. Lost power for a few minutes, just long enough to light candles before it came back on.
Some very strong gusts as I type and we have just gone to signal 5 which is as high as it goes. Signal 12 in HK terms?
It went crazy last night and power off for 15 hours.
Three buildings badly damaged nearby and 5 rescue workers drowned in a neighbouring province. The preparation and evacuations seem to have minimised losses.
Even if these events are only peripherally of relevance to HK, it's always been quite sobering to think that what used to be merely "day off work" weather has probably devastated entire communities further to the south, or will go on to kill a load of people to the north.
Is there anyone on this forum who is actually from HK?
At times feels like a load of old expats living elsewhere and moaning about how shit HK is.
Bizarre
There are still some, including myself, but naturally people leave HK and younger expats tend to flock towards Facebook groups instead.
I personally prefer Geo since if you don't like seeing the moaning here, you've seen nothing compared to the Facebook groups... It's just a bunch of assholes. At least the assholes get their threads closed here.
I do live in HK, if you don't like it you can ask Shri to delete your account. Moaning is a coping mechanism which is used to release anger in a democratic country. It is a very healthy thing to do and you should try sometimes. I'm equally critical (if not more) of people from my country than when I live abroad. That's how you get things done, otherwise nothing changes.
I find it interesting that these "typhoon season 20**" type threads have been running for years without criticism but now someone finds them problematic. Why?
