Umm, especially since "typhoon alley" is kind of a bit east of the PH so you all see it first, then the rest of us. Yesterday, we in TW were clearly getting some kind of outer bands of Noru- it went from coolish mid-20's weather up to low 30's very quickly and just had that "typhoon" feel about it. Also, today, has that "post-typhoon" feel about it (hot, clear).
Further, there are more Filipinos in HK than gweilos and they are expats as well and may be interested in what is going on back home...
