    Still retroactive and not predictive/real-time though, just looking more closely and it's also behind about 10mins (of course as the gov data is too) choppy but gives a better idea of the layers/density of the passing storms

    The animation has a play/pause button. And somewhere in the window is the time stamp of the recorded cloud pattern visible. So you can pause the animation on the most recent snapshot if you wish.
    The benefit of the animation is that you can see whether a cloud is getting larger or smaller over time, and in which general direction it is moving.
