    Question Processing Domestic Helper Contract

Hi All, please have a look to my request and give your suggestion.

I was searching for domestic helper and found one from FB groups. Did an interview and I am ready to Hire her, she is from Philippines. Currently she is working with another employer and her last day with existing contract is by Jan end.

Can I do the employment contract of domestic helper, myself without taking help of any agency. If so could you help me what all the steps I should follow. More thanks, if we can provide any weblinks for reference too.

Just to get rid of agent fee, as they asking 6000. Moreover we only found the person.

Hi if the helper is finishing her contract then it's fairly easy to do the paperwork yourself. You can apply 4 weeks before her current contract ends.

Follow the steps on immigration site on How to change employer

    https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services...tml#c&firstTab

    You can apply online

I’ve done two directly now and one semi direct (we needed an agency because of Covid rules at the time but negotiated a massive discount). If you take the time to read the previous link it is actually very easy and other than filling out paperwork the helper can do most, if not all, of the running around. Give her travel and lunch money, most of it is dull but necessary admin.

Do pay for a medical for piece of mind and do get helper insurance.

oh and definitely start the process now. I’m sure you know she can defer her flight back to Philippines for 12 months. Make sure current employer gives her the single flight money in severance which you can either trouser or let her have it if you’re comfortably paying for her return flight when needed. You’re only actually required to pay the flight back.

thanks for the reply..... where do I can opt the medical insurance for helper?

Today I went to immigration and collected the forms in 4 colors. Have not get time to look at it due to busy work schedule. I shall check at weekend.

However, since my helpers existing contract is ending with current employer, does she need to get any letter from current employer?

From memory I think employer and her need to each fill in a form to notify that contract is ending. She won’t need another letter since you are taking her on. She will need to elect for return to Philippines within 12 months I think on the same form

my insurance is with OCBC Wing Hang, others may have better recommendations but I have had no complaints and have had surgical and hospital costs paid without quibble.

I am in the UK atm so doing this from memory. I think it is called Platinum Maid Cover

@HK526267819 the previous employer will give her a release letter. Hopefully they can give it to her early. An immigration officer allowed our previous helper to write her own release letter.

Once again, be careful your domestic helper may have the same rights as you.
This obviously needs to be stopped.

and why does it obviously has to be stopped. What needs to happen first is that employers need to abide by the terms of a DH employment contract. I suspect the numbers that don’t far outweigh the number of job hoppers, many who are doing so for the reason just stated.
