    Matrimonial Legal Advice

    Any legal firm recommendations?

    Situation:

Out of wedlock child with my surname, living with the mother. I pay her an agreed upon amount of money every month. She now wants me to give consent (sign a letter) to change the child’s surname all of a sudden for reasons which don’t make sense.

I don’t have a problem if she wants to change her name, but can me signing a consent letter be used against me in the future, ie. her trying to get more alimony? Logic says no, but want to make certain.

    Thanks

Its a change of name form.
Doesn't change anything other than legal name.
You are still the father on the birth certificate.

As long as your name is on the birth certificate she can try and milk you for more money anytime regardless what surname the kid has now. Why does she want to change the kids surname to hers NOW??

It could be the kid who wants to change name. Living with the mother but having a different surname might cause questions at school for example.

when hong kong females get married here they don't automatically take the husband's family name (I don't know why) so almost every kid in Hong Kong kid does not have the mums family name.

My first wife in the UK didn't either. OK so there might not be questions, but if there is no strong connection between the child and the father, even animosity, then I could see the child wanting to change name.
