The words were not even to the customer. They were in their semi-private work area. Stupid yes, hateful?

Worthy of discussion at the highest level politics?

I don't know what to think of it to be honest.

The level of English is low in China, though I have met a few who spoke really good English. I lived abroad after graduating until now, and I found native English tend to make fun of you for mispronouncing a word while they can't even learn another language.

Like some other posters said, it's a service industry, so eat it. If the client is a twat then yeah fine have a go at them.

It's the problem with social media, it spreads quickly. The nugget that our CE maybe shouldn't have commented about it. It reminds me of locals when you make a mistake at work, they would report you in your back, he's just doing the same, trying to act like the perfect student!

I am sure I have ordered food and drinks very badly I'm some countries and I am sure I was never recommended that I try the dog food from the store next door.

The crew fucked up .. the nation reacted and slapped down a foreign owned airline run in a second tier city. The mayor wants someone to commit seppuku... As is normal for foreign owned entities that do not respect our countrymen.

    Simple and predictible...

The point is simple and just amplified by the fact that it is being postured as a HK v mainland thing.

In todays world of blame, sue, ambulance chase culture any company cannot be seen to endorse this kind of behaviour.

I’ll say again I’m on the side of the flight attendants but sadly that’s not the way the world, and especially the corporate world, thinks and acts any longer.

He said the incident had reinforced a perception held by some customers that the airline has not been able to provide high-quality services to customers from different backgrounds consistently.
Hah .. just the airline? Recently??

He must be new to town...

This statement says a lot more about you than the "corporate world". At least you managed to avoid blaming the Americans this time, well done

Amazing how you still go through so much mental gymnastics to avoid the truth of this clearly being pure mainland politics at play instead of anything corporate.

I am certainly NOT denying that this particular instance is mainland politics in play AGAIN. I'm very simply saying that this is now the way of the world and that ethic/corporate culture did not originate from the mainland. We are just at the centre of it being based in HK with Mainland v Cathay but it is happening everywhere.

Corporate marketing is more important than it has ever been. Endless media announcements 'thrilled to announce' something totally meaningless. Just read the code of conduct policies of any major company posted online typically extending to activity outside of work including social media. Employees are now being disciplined or terminated in some cases for the mildest of transgressions.

I've even been disciplined in the past for using bold in an internal email which was deemed to be unnecessary harassment FFS.

Don't fall into the Brit trap of sniping at any opportunity.

I've been very comfortable sleeping beneath a carpet when a blanket wasn't available, but I'm in the 1% of bearskin rug sleepers. When in Colorado and it gets really cold....

    地毯、挂毯、毛毯

For Chinese it’s more complicated to differentiate.

挂毯 for example is “Wandteppich” in German
( wall carpet ) but in English it’s tapestry, I read
