    Helper is stealing

Looking for help on how to handle this if anyone has had experience before.

Basically we started to notice only recently larger sums of money going missing so we installed a hidden cam in the bedroom and within the next days, we caught helper snoooping around in drawers where i sometimes have money. Three days later now we have caught her on video taking my wallet out of pants and taking some notes out. In the last 2-3 weeks we are already missing around 10-15k. Likely this has been going on for probably months but we have been too stupid/trusting/relaxed about money around the house....

So what is the best way to go about this and recover the what we have lost? We dont have much evidence and records of what has gone missing in the past, only the 2 videos mentioned earlier. We gone through her things while she was out and found a stack of cash, maybe around 20k or so, all in 500 notes which is what we have been losing. Likely ours but we have just left it for now.

So what do we do? Do we terminate her and ask her to return all the money/threathen to go police if she doesnt?
Do we go to the police right away? Do we need to gather any more evidence?

    Any help appreciated.

Go to the police right away. You're not going to get much out of her without breaking the law yourself

We tend to keep hardly much cash at home and lock the master bedroom before leaving the house.

Do the same if an employee or colleague was stealing from you and you had proof. Press charges if you think she'll be able to pay you back if she's running other scams.

She'll be evicted, which serves her right.

You must be white and/or Canadian. So patient to ask GEO for advice when you have solid evidence of theft. Amazing lol.

shri, flameproof, BCD and 4 others like this.

    lol neither of those.

We also want to rule out our 2nd maid isnt doing any of the theft hence patiently sitting on this while we get on to a replacement a maid too and figuring out best way to deal with this.

Had the same issue a few months ago: no cash stolen, but I lost a watch and a few other personal items. We know they were shipped to the Philippines. She was terminated since we had no proof since the items were not in her possession, but she was even stealing from our other helper (who only told us after the one who was stealing was terminated). In your case you can either get the police involved, or just terminate her contract.

If you want more evidence, take a picture/video of some notes with serial numbers, and put them in your room. All on video. Wait for her to take them, then call the police. She'll likely deny it, but serial numbers don't lie.

    1. Speak to her immediately
    2. Tell her that you've noticed money has been missing a lot lately and that you installed a camera inside the house
    3. You have video record of taking your money
    4. Ask her why she is stealing (optional)
    5. Tell her you will report her to the police and get her arrested for theft unless she returns all the money stolen
    6. Tell your you will terminate her and report to immigration that she is a Thief which will get her blacklisted

The moment you got evidence, you should fire her immediately and recover your losses. Filing to the police is ideal to protect your ass from any other liabilitiies.

Between 2 and 3 I would interpose a chance to confess because if she doesn't, you have video evidence of her doing it.
