    golly gosh

    dear oh dear
What happens when presented with a salad in the middle of the table with those silver serving implements???

How does one get one's leaves to one's plate???
How does one surround the piece of quiche with salad so as not to offend anyone?

Life is so full of complications

    (give us all a break...)

the serving chopstick is a rather stupid idea to me. imagine the amount of chopsticks on the table. each serving spoon for each dish is much more practical.

but seriously, if you expect chinese food served in asia to be hygienic, then i suggest you give up eating chinese food all together. what happens on the table are only things you see, the magnitude of the problem multiplied inside the kitchen.

Well, I was dragged to go to a chinese restaurant near LKF because my mates were hungry and that's cool I tend not to eat at night but the stench of ciggarette smoke was unbearable. I even told my mate he wasnt going to light up while he was at the table. Nasty little habit, hopefully they will get serious like in england and ban smoking in food eating establishments. (Yes I used to smoke and no I dont have a problem with smokers)

A member of my family asks for a spare pair of chopsticks for each dim sum. There are like 35 dim sums on a table of 12, interesting eh?

Yes, if everyone (12 ?) sitting on the same table follow the rule,
it is better. But i see too often there are offenders ( forget to change chopsticks or even simply do not like to use it )

Besides, it is common for serving chopsticks touching the bowl used for eating too.

    >>the buffets you favour where so many people use the same serving implements for first as well as second helpings? Better give up on buffets too.

it is fine as long as the serving spoon do not touch their own plates.

    >> I have not seen any one smoking in any public air-conditioned bus in Hong Kong

Smokers are not allowed to smoke on the bus, therefore they all have one just before they jump into a bus, no need further explanation then. Even it is not this case, the smell/air from smokers breathing is very bad all the time too. In a poor circulation bus, you have no choice, but to inhale the air.
Yeah and what about people with just plain bad breath...should not be allowed on the bus. The bus driver should do a smell test on every potential passenger's breath before boarding the bus. This could be a new job position...creating jobs...."breath analyst" on every bus.

Vrindavan should just go back home to where he came from. Asia ain't right for him. Lol, I can just picture Vrindaven eating food by himself while everyone else is eating together.

    >> with just plain bad breath

    simply bad smell only,
not a big deal compare to 2nd hand smoke,
of course it is not good too

but second hand smoke or the air exhale from smokers will affect other people health, even the air smell good to certain people.

i do not want a black color lung or lung cancer

you still not understand the issue well,
it is not a "alone or together" issue

it is about separation of cooking/serving utensils with
    eating utensils.

    Vrindavan!!

I hope you have been reading the notes people have left you - I think I can speak for everyone here... You are in HONG KONG, you don't get to choose what you like and dislike about the culture. You are in their territory and it is extremely disrespectful for you to come in and call the food sharing experience here "CHOP STICK WARS"

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it. I think it's importanta to share experiences, but take a hint...**YAWN**
    You better stay at home.

    "chopsticks war"

    refer to the following situation

several pairs of chopsticks digging the same plate of food together,
or having the same piece of food as target

the worse case is different pairs of chopsticks touching each other,
like chopsticks fighting scene. ( rare case now as people in general are more polite in restaurant )

Sorry if this create any confusion
