    bad smell from bathroom drainage

we moved to 26th floor in 41 floor building. I have noted there is always bad smell from drainage. we were in neighbourhood last year but we were at 39th floor out of 42 and thee was no such smell. we are keeping the exhaust fan ON all the time and it is working fine.

any similar experience and suggestion from anyone to get rid of the bad smell.

Fill the floor hole with bleach. Ask your landlord to get someone to clean the pipe traps or do it yourself if you know how.

sewer gas and odour passes through the drainage piping into the bathroom , when

1 the u traps are dry
2 extract fan drags air into bath room, or
3 the drainage pipework is damaged

The floor drain has some sort of trap in it and water needs to be in it to stop the smell from the pipe. If you have the fan on all the time it’s probably drying the pipe and causing the smell from the pipe, which is from everyone else’s crap, coming in your flat. Also if when you open your front door you feel pressure difference then this is also an issue. You can adjust the pressures (windows doors exhaust etc) or simply add some water with the shower head down the floor drains (there’s usually one in the kitchen and bathroom and sometimes more than one, also the washing machine too usually has an open pipe exit) a few minutes, it will take time for the old smell to leave the room and then check it again.

Can also be buildup in the shower drain pipe. You can get commercial-strength drain cleaner at hardware stores. We have to do it periodically or our drain clogs up.
