    HIRING A HELPER with PR

    Hello,

    Asking for a friend.

Applying helper is a permanent resident who has difficulty finding a better employment and willing to take a house help job. Employer prefer it legal and full time. Questions in mind:

    1. Is it lawfully acceptable?
    2. Is there a need for the employer to consult, course through and get approval from a government agency (i.e. immigration, labour dep't.) to form the agreement or agreement can be done directly by employer and the helper without a third party to witness/approve the agreement?

    Thanks in advance for answers.

Totally legal. Can even live out. No need any approval. But she would be much better off doing part time for an hourly rate.

Also no need for any approvals from anyone. Check and make sure the actual / effective hourly salary is at minimum wage. No clue about MPF issues...

Need to pay minimum wage and probably have to buy some kind of employee insurance. I don't think you can get the typical helper insurance for a PR.

Forgot about this ... Would recommend reading it. A local helper is anyone who is a PR or dependent.

It's a legal requirement for any employer in Hong Kong.

Not to be confused with medical insurance. This is for workplace accidents and liabilities usually home insurance covers liabilities but am not sure if they cover employee liabilities. Worth checking.
