Direct transfer to Hong Kong license and using HK license to transfer to mainland license?

I have HKPIC three star and a HRP. And an overseas HSBC account.

I am planning on moving towards mainland again. Last time it plans fell through but I probably have greater chances this time.

I remember reading that a foreign license including ones from states within the U.S. can be transferred to a HK license which can than be used to apply for a mainland one. However I don’t currently have a fixed residential address within Hong Kong I can borrow or use. I read the transport department have some alternative options for those staying in temporary addresses ie short term rentals. Anyone tried that?

Anyone know what has changed about transferring HK license to mainland? It appears they are opening up and streamlining the process to encourage people to cross the new bridge between Hong Kong and Zhuhai/Macau. But I am not sure what’s its like in practice though. If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great.

Just did it but live in HK.
With a HK address you will need proof (i.e utility bill), with your name and address on it.
Also not a fun process, wait lines start at 6am (only at Admiralty location) for the first slot, limited tickets for submitting an application.
Once submitted, you have come back a line up again couple weeks after for pickup (if approved, can only find out if you come back).

... and then for the Mainland license, once you have the HK license (and you'll need the HRP) - easiest is to use an agent such as Lee Kin. You can do it yourself (in China) but that's more hassle.

There was a recent thread on this:

Compared to the process in Hong Kong, converting the licence in Shenzhen is a walk in the park (if you speak Cantonese).

Thanks, it will be nice if you can explain your experience a little more.

How is the line for pickup after they are done?
What is likelihood of being disqualified and whether there are precautions or do the homework to take to much increase success rate?

The transport department website apparently they say can use proof of staying in a hotel or service apartment as well.

i also need to get my HRP renewed in HK as well maybe killing too birds with one stone? Heading to other parts of Asia, Macau, Taiwan in the mean time before the license is ready two weeks later and doing the conversion for mainland license. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
