Tis the season: Flower Vendors Commandeering Public Sports Ground

Why do flower vendors have so much power to close down sports grounds every year? How much are they paying in order to prevent people from exercising in a safe environment near their homes? Who is getting the money? Why can't they sell their gaudy dead flowers in a normal market?

Today, on a lovely Saturday, the park is entirely closed so they can take down all their crap and move the circus elsewhere.

These shows have been going on well before you discovered the parks and will go on well after you leave HK.

Do you enjoy your free healthcare and low tax regime? If you do, go around and thank the vendors for subsidising some of your meds.

Not sure which flower show you are whining about .. but this is generally how it works.. govt auctions spaces, winners sell flowers.

Well, who'd have thought flower stalls would be playing such a crucial role in the economy. We need to spread the solution to struggling economies, and healthcare services around the world.

It seems to be around Christmas here when they close down the sports ground. Last year for CNY some flower shops popped up where they should be in retail units, but they didn't hijack parks, libraries or any other public amenities.

Victoria Park definitely turns into a market and many other ones.

Random source from last year :

    Enjoy!

The flower market ended last Friday here, but the park was still closed until at least Wednesday, and on the two holidays (Sunday and New Year's Day) no work was being done - still closed because some of their crap was laying around.

No issues with it being at plazas, or regular parks.
