Red Packet Festival is upon us...

What's an appropriate amount to give to a particularly considerate waitress, who is friendly, remembers the little things, and goes the extra mile. For example, when I was sick, she brought me a free hot lemon drink. When I asked for condensed milk in my coffee, she took note and now brings it to me every time even if she is not in charge of my order.

I don't want it to seem stingy, but I don't want it to be a big deal. Just a low key thank you to show I noticed and care.

Is it okay to only give a red packet to one member of staff? Or will the rest of them start spitting in my soup?

sorry to hijack on this topic, but wondering if banks still give customers free red packets? will they be delivered or we are supposed to pick it up from the branch?

Not if you are regular. You could give your favorite waitress $100 and everyone else $20. Just use differently colored envelopes.

You need to collect. Delivery... Depending on where you live, your estate management company might have packets for residents

Have this on my mind also, I'm a frequent customer at a take-away place for the past 5 years or so. One lady has taken note and knows what I want. When their menu changed (some add-on items were added which I don't like) she gives me the old set I used to order, at a lower price.

The other staff refuses to sell me this set, says its not possible, although I refer to her giving it to me for a long time now. Sometimes if she is there she rushes to rescue brushes the other person aside and gives me the special set, other days she is not there and its back to computer says CAN NOT. Basically I'm in no mood to give pockets to these other people but this lady is getting a big surprise this year, can I really give the others nothing?

I am planning for 5 CNY, 10 CNY and 100 CNY red pocket.

5 CNY red pocket for security guard that opens the door for us daily, etc.

10 CNY red pocket for a better waitress that come greets you.

100 CNY for kids from close friends and family.

My last day in office is Jan 19th without much of a warning But we give out yr end bonus so that's sort of red pocket.

I only have one kid so my odds of breaking even from receiving end of red pockets are slim....

Wife told me, even if we go on vacation during Chinese New Year, we still have to give out red pocket via WeChat.... damn you digital wallet...
