Don't forget the ferry option to Shekou. I think that is by far the most manageable - especially during busy times - as there are a limited number of ferries. That said, the tip of Shekou is kinda' far from the middle of Shenzhen.

Isn't Lok Ma Chau (HK side) and Futian (china side) the same?

Futian side have tons of bus (to other cities beside Shenzhen) and you can even get tickets on the spot. I hope you know Chinese. Is safe to assume the ticket lady don't speak English.

If going to Shenzhen district, just take a DiDi. Have your DiDi App ready before going. Subway is also a good option. Just download the Shenzhen Subway mini App within WeChat.

Same for HK side, tons of bus to get to all parts of HK. Have Octopus card ready.

Futian is a transfer station of Shenzhen MTR, hence, it is more convenient if your destination is Shenzhen.

If you have a Hong Kong Yoyo Octopus Subway (they call it Metro) costs RMB 0.00 - need to use manual gate though.

Back to the question: Lok Ma Chau and Huanggang is pretty close, walking distance. But I believe you can't walk on the Hong Kong side because is sort of closed area. On the China side you can.
