    Wanting to learn Cantonese

Can anyone recommend a book with CD's for learning Cantonese. I am a complete beginner and decided this would be the best way to start.

Having read some previous posts from several years ago some people mentioned Susanna Ng book or Sydney Lau's books with CD's neither of which I have been able to find yet.

I was wandering if anyone who used these or any other books to teach themsleves the basics had any success?

    Thanks

If you try Pimsleur cantonese, it will give you a lot of confidence, and help you master pronunciation, as the method is exclusively about listening. But in fact, you won't learn much vocabulary, and you couldn't communicate much.

I spent a lot of time to try to find good cantonese books, reading a lot of comments. Finally, I bought Teach Yourself Cantonese (take the last editions), it's not bad, and the texts are quite modern and funny. The books comes with CD.

    Thanks Akarui

Found a copy of Teach Yourself Cantonese in Dymocks. See how it goes over the next month or so.

Revanche - Dymocks in Princes building still has a copy left.

Noticed several copies of Susanna Ng's Interesting Cantonese in Dymocks on Lyndhurst Terrace, but this book strikes me as not for the complete beginner like myself as it's just a load of phrases with no explanation of what each individual word means.
