Being overcharged by Hong Kong Post?

    Turtle- it seems obvious from your original description why you were not being charged the small packet rate.

    If you are worried about the possibility of the packet falling open in transit, in my experience the postal clerks are fine with a small bit of tape covering the the string that holds the envelope flap down. Then again, I've always sent such packages in person from a post office.

    Just use an envelope with adhesive on the flap. You still pay the lower rate since those envelopes can still be readily opened for inspection.

    That's my experience too. We post items almost every day and it's something I actually enjoy doing... the service is great and so is the price.

    Turtle, you can buy proper padded mailing envelopes with a peel-off strip of adhesive along the lip which can be pried open by customs.
